Compression-moulded SMC parts, in series

SMC (Sheet Moulding Compound) is the benchmark thermoset composite for technical parts in series: it insulates, does not corrode, keeps its shape, and its cost per part improves as volume grows. We process it on 7 presses from 150 to 1,250 t, from mould to finished part.

Why us

Industrial capacity for long series, with no surprises.

01

Repeatability over long series

Sensor-equipped presses (temperature and hydraulic pressure curves) and unit traceability linking raw-material batch, press and final part.

02

A grade for every requirement

General-purpose SMC, UL94 V-0 self-extinguishing grades, structural grades with 55% glass fibre and flame-retardant grades classified to EN 45545-2 for rail.

03

Electrical insulation as standard

Dielectric strength of 16 kV/mm, CTI 600 and 960 °C glow-wire resistance in our reference grade for electrical applications.

04

No corrosion, optional finish

It does not rust and needs no anti-corrosion treatment. If the part needs a Class A finish, we paint it inside the mould (PIMC).

05

Capacity for large moulds

Moulds up to 24 t with a dedicated store, 2×10 t and 1×5 t overhead cranes, and our own or customer moulds.

06

Logistics next to the port

5,500 m² plant in Arrigorriaga (Bilbao, Spain), 25 min from the Port of Bilbao and 20 min from the airport, with 2 fast loading docks.

Technical data

SMC grades we work with

Grade Reinforcement Flexural Tensile Fire / electrical
Electrical (H154) 30% glass ≥ 190 MPa ≥ 95 MPa UL94 V-0 @ 3 mm · glow wire 960 °C · CTI 600 · 16 kV/mm
Structural (FG3375-55) 55% glass ≥ 290 MPa ≥ 180 MPa UL94 V-0 @ 1.2 mm

Minimum or indicative values from the material manufacturer’s datasheets (Astar) and EN 45545-2:2013 classification report from an ENAC-accredited laboratory (GAIKER, 2015). Final part properties depend on design and process: each quotation includes the datasheet of the proposed grade.

Frequently asked questions

Common questions about SMC

From what volume does SMC pay off?

Tooling cost is amortised over volume, so SMC is especially competitive in medium and long series. For short runs or prototypes we assess alternatives and show you the figures in the quotation.

Can you handle long series at a steady rate?

With 7 presses of different tonnage we allocate production according to each mould and cycle time. Share your annual forecast and delivery schedule and we will plan it with you.

Do you work with customer moulds?

Yes: our own and customer moulds, with a dedicated mould store separate from production, and mould maintenance.

Which colours?

Depending on the grade, SMC is supplied in different RAL colours (for example 7035, 9001 or 9002). For a Class A finish, in-mould painting (PIMC).

Planning a series of SMC parts?

Send us the drawing, annual volume and requirements (electrical, fire, finish): we will propose grade, process and price per series.
