Phenolic SMC owes its fire-retardant behavior to the chemistry of the phenolic resin itself: it is intrinsically fire-resistant, with very low smoke emission and gas toxicity significantly lower than other composites — which is why it is the reference material for rail rolling-stock interiors. Our reference is certified under the European standard EN 45545 in the HL3 requirement category, which sets strict limits on flame spread, smoke density (ISO 5659-2 test) and heat release (ISO 5660-1).
