SMC composite resists well against corrosion in marine environments, with lightness and mechanical strength suited to naval components — unlike steel and aluminum, it doesn’t suffer electrochemical corrosion in contact with salt water and doesn’t require periodic anti-corrosion treatments. Glass fiber and carbon fiber composites are common in decks, anti-slip gratings and interior boat elements thanks to their good strength-to-weight ratio.
